"We were fortunate last year to win the Catalina cabana and
it was the best way to spend the hot days of summer.
The management at Catalina was very gracious and welcoming
to us and the place is beautiful. This is an incredible cause and
it was definitely the best raffle ticket I ever bought. Good luck!"

Operation: 5,000 Backpacks 2010

We're thrilled to announce that our Annual Backpack program is in full swing once again.

This one day frenzy event is to be held on August 14th (12:00-3:00) at Herber Middle School and will provide a new, school supply-filled backpack for 5,000 underprivileged students... from New York to California to Haiti to Brazil. (and many places in between!)

There is no doubt that our own economies have been affected by the recession of the past two years. That is why this program is needed now more than ever.

There are several ways to take part.  While the work of filling the backpacks is done by young volunteers, teens are needed to guide them through the process, fill boxes, lift boxes, and load the 30' foot container truck with over 10 tons of school supplies.

Sponsorships are key to our program.  Sponsor a Backpack for $10 each.

Sponsor a classroom of 20 students for $200.

Sponsor a Backpack Item. Details below.

Project HOTSHOTS is an ALL-VOLUNTEER, non-profit charity committed to bringing Music, Art, School and Sports to needy kids all over the world.

Please consider joining us in ANY way you can.

Change a Child's Life

That's what we did in 2007... our first  Backpack event...Operation: 1,000 Backpacks 2007

I was stunned to learn how much of an impact one backpack made on a young man. According to the school administrator, when the BPs were distributed to youngsters in the Bronx last August, one 6th grade boy didn't understand.  This young man, I was told, has been bounced around from foster home to foster home his whole life and did not have the ability or capacity to comprehend someone doing something nice for him...for NOTHING IN RETURN! That had never happened to him before...EVER!

I was told that before he received his Backpack, he was quite introverted and always sad.  He became fascinated with the idea that there are kind people out here. He asked a question, then another, then 20 or 30 more. The teachers and counselors were amazed by his curiosity. He now takes part in all activities, has become pretty popular and is happy for the first time in his life!

Imagine me when I received the phone call telling me this.  "Do you want to know whose name was on the luggage tag?" I was asked.  "No, that's unimportant. This belongs to every one of us", I replied.

Even if the other 999 Backpacks got kicked aside and never used, all of our hard work was worth it. I wonder how many other stories there are like that one.

Nice!
